Calderwood to get the chop at Forest?

Speculation is rife in the press (see the Evening Post and the Guardian) that Calderwood is set for the chop, in the wake of Forest’s uninspiring 0-0 draw at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday night.

I’d wager that Doncaster’s ground isn’t one of Colin’s favourite places, after last season’s 1-0 defeat at Keepmoat prompted the boo-boys in to action too. He must be hoping for a similar reaction to last seasons, then, because since that loss we embarked on a run of 6 wins out of 7 games played, including a 2-0 away win at Carlisle, and ultimately ending in an automatic promotion spot.

The performance on Tuesday must have been the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back, but doubtless the lacklustre display against 10-man Norwich sowed a few seeds too. Former Derby manager Billy Davies is currently the media’s favourite to get the job, with Aidy Boothroyd and Iain Dowie also in the frame. Fortunately Big Sam seems to be out of the running, he’s holding out for a Premiership club.

Despite the speculation, and ‘Calderwood out’ chants from a section of the Forest support on Tuesday, CC has remained defiant: ‘Everyone’s got an opinion but my opinion is we’ll still survive. I’ve got nothing to hide from. Jeering is not helpful to the team and that’s the thing they’ve (the boo-boys) got to think about. In the position we’re in we’ve got to win home games which will make these away points precious. Barnsley at home is a game we’ve got to take three points from’.

You’re not wrong on the last point, Colin, although whether you’ll be in charge for that game remains to be seen. It seems that he’s got support from the players though, and personally I think he deserves a stay of execution as the past few games (Norwich and Doncaster notwithstanding) have seen glimpses of recovery. Equally, I wouldn’t mind seeing Davies put in charge, simply because he’s got more experience at this level, and the speculation must be having an effect on the players too.
