Earnie and Cohen keep Morecambe at bay
By: Tim | August 14th, 2008
Morecambe may have provided an upset in the League Cup this time a year ago, but last night’s game at the City Ground felt more like a training exercise than a rigorous workout for the Reds. Still, Earnie finally got off the mark with a brace, linking up well with Cohen for both goals. Hopefully this should go some way to restoring his confidence.
Cohen bagged one himself too, from a free kick, and it was good to see some younger players getting a chance in the senior side, with Adam Newbold coming off the bench to score a well-taken goal. There’s not much else to report on this one really, aside from a solid debut performance from our new loan signing, Lee Martin.
I’m not quite sure what to make of him to be honest. He looked lively last night, and he scored in a pre-season friendly for Manchester United, but Martin’s goal scoring record on his many loan outings isn’t exactly great. Of his 54 appearances at loan clubs ranging from Royal Antwerp to Rangers, he has scored only 4 times. His recent spell with Sheffield United was cut short due to a knee injury, although Blades manager Kevin Blackwell was reportedly keen to keep him at Bramall Lane this season.
Watch this space I reckon, at least we’ve got cover now. Well, another winger anyway. Oh, one last thing, in a repeat of the pre-season friendly we’ve drawn Sunderland in the next round. Expect plenty of ‘Keane returns to Forest’ style stories in the press.
