Have Bolton lost the plot?
By: Stuart | October 25th, 2007
Bolton Wanderers today appointed Gary Megson as Sammy Lee’s successor, all but signing their own death warrant. Megson has proved time after time what sort of a man he is, yet clubs still keep coming back for him.
It makes you wonder if there is any loyalty left in football, when a man who only six weeks ago made his managerial return with Leicester City, decides to up sticks the second a Premiership club with two-and-a-half million quid to spare comes knocking. You can just imagine him sitting there in cartoon form, with dollar signs for eyeballs and a big fat grin slapped across his ugly mug.
And what reason do the Trotters have to go chasing this brainless goon? His looks maybe? I don’t think so. What about his unique ability to fail so poorly to manage his dressing room, that he had to drag two Forest fans in to do his work for him?
Brian Clough never liked Gary Megson, and he didn’t get a single game under Ol’ Big Head after arriving at the City Ground. It is that single fact that filled me with scepticism when he took over from Joe Kinnear as manager. He just seemed like an angry man who wanted a fight. I was delighted when he left, he was up there with David Pl*tt as one of the worst managers we’ve ever had.
So if he can’t handle a League One side, how the hell is he going to manage Nicolas Anelka?
Having read a couple of posts on a Leicester City supporters’ forum, it seems their fans are relieved to be rid of him, and judging by the results of a poll in a local paper, Bolton fans don’t want him either. Less than two per cent (basically 12 people) of the 699 fans questioned said they wanted Megson as boss, and they were probably lying.

You’ve got to wonder what the hell the board at Bolton was thinking this past week. Looks like Leeds (and it wouldn’t surprise me if Forest, too) will be playing Bolton next season – let’s just hope Megson’s still managing them, they’ll be a shoo-in for one of the relegation spots.
